Congressman Doc Hastings and Deferred Action

In June of 2012, President Obama announced a new discretionary program that would allow certain immigrants who were brought here as children to apply for work authorization and a valid social security number. The program is called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and for these immigrants it was a welcomed opportunity to come out of the shadows.

Earlier today, the House of Representatives voted to end DACA and to strip ICE of all discretionary decision making when it comes to enforcing immigration law. Central Washington Congressman, Doc Hastings, voted for the bill. While Harry Reid and the White House have given assurances that the bill will not become law, the vote is symbolic in many ways of just how backwards the Republican thinking in the House is when it comes to immigration.

Now is the time to call Congressman Hastings and let him know what you think about this recent vote. Tell him it’s time for real immigration reform.
